Kevin Walker, Acting Director of Programs and Student Services

 

Mr. Kevin Walker was appointed as Acting Director of Programs and Student Services with the Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) as of December 2, 2024. During Mr. Walker’s 34-year career in education, he has worked in a number of positions in Ontario and Nova Scotia including a classroom teacher for nine (9) years and principal for sixteen (16) years. Regionally, he has served as a Coordinator for nine (9) years, responsible at various times for Strategic Planning Consultation, Transportation / Boundary Review, and InSchool Facilitator - PowerSchool/TIENET Project Manager. Most recently, he has served as the Coordinator of Youth Pathways, Policy, and a Family of Schools Coordinator, a position he held for the past seven (7) years.

Mr. Walker’s formal education includes a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Policy, as well as completion of coursework for a Doctor of Education in Educational Administration.

Mr. Walker’s leadership activities have extended to facilitating a variety of professional learning experiences for teachers and school administrators. In addition to delivering professional development at the Regional level, these opportunities have included roles such as presenter for various Associations at NSTU Provincial Conferences as well as Coach Leader for the Skillful Observation and Coaching Laboratory as part of the Instructional Leadership Academy. He has also served as Chair of the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation.
 

The Strait Regional Centre for Education is responsible for:

• the provision of educational programs and services to students and support for schools in the delivery of all aspects of the Public School Program; and

• the provision of appropriate professional development in order to ensure that students effectively reach the outcomes of the Public School Program.

Under the leadership of the Director of Programs and Student Services, the Department’s responsibilities also include:

  •  Pre-primary and Early Years Programs;
  •  School administrative support and appraisal; and
  •  Educational partnerships.
