RED Message to SRCE Families: Hurricane Fiona

RED Message to SRCE Families Regarding Hurricane Fiona
Posted on 09/22/2022

Good Afternoon SRCE Families:

Our region is expected to receive significant rainfall and hurricane-force winds over the weekend which may impact school opening on Monday if there are power outages and/or property damage to schools.

The Strait Regional Centre for Education is following the path of the storm closely and we have plans in place to inspect all of our buildings following the storm and make decisions about Monday opening if necessary.

Plan of Action

With the storm expected to hit sometime on Friday evening through Saturday, our Operations staff has been preparing with school staff to ensure all of our buildings are secure.

All schools, buildings and worksites in the Strait Regional Centre for Education will be closed to students, staff and the general public as of 6:00 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2022, and will remain closed throughout the weekend. As a result, all extra-curricular and/or community activities will be cancelled and/or rescheduled.

Once the storm passes and it is safe, staff will check schools to determine if there are any impacts on our ability to open on Monday.

If there are going to be any cancellations or delays, we will share this information in a number of different ways. We recognize any decisions to close a school or schools has an impact on families so we share any information as soon as a decision has been made.

How to Stay Informed

If there are any impacts (delays or bus service and class cancellations) to a school or schools, you can expect to find the information in the following ways:

  • Check our website, www.srce.ca and specifically the Cancellations and Announcements image on the main page of the website. Please note there are two tabs on this page, School and Work Site Cancellations and Announcements are found under the first tab at the bottom of the page and Bus Route Cancellations and Announcements are found under the second tab.
  • Follow us on Twitter at Twitter.com/SRCE_NS.
  • Listen to local radio stations.

You are encouraged to check all available information sources to ensure that you are kept up to date regarding class and bus service announcements.

Take care and stay safe this weekend.
