Mathematics

For any questions related to Mathematics instruction, please contact April Weaver, Coordinator of Mathematics, 902-625-7083.

We are committed to cultivating positive attitudes and beliefs about learning and doing mathematics. We support all staff in creating a classroom community where we learn by valuing lived experiences and doing deep and meaningful mathematics together.  We know that by setting the stage for students to be seen, and to see themselves, as thinkers and doers of mathematics, mathematics learning will come more easily.  As we build on our region’s commitment to “Excellence in Lifelong Learning”, we support the goals of the Nova Scotia mathematics curriculum to:

  • use mathematics confidently to solve problems
  •  communicate and reason mathematically
  •  appreciate and value mathematics
  •  make connections between mathematics and its applications
  •  become mathematically literate adults, using mathematics to contribute to society.

How Families can help students at home…

Having a positive attitude towards Mathematics really helps students do well. Discussions about how Math is used in your job, when buying groceries and doing projects around the house shows students the need for Math in everyday life. Doing Mathematics is much like playing a video game in that it is normal to make lots of mistakes and learn from them to level up!
